Abolition is our Islamic duty - Mourning our beloved Brother Chis Kaba

Our hearts are heavy mourning the death of Chris Kaba, a beloved community member whose life was taken by state violence.

We extend our duas to all those who knew him and loved him and pray for his safe journey in the afterlife. We also pray for all those facing state violence every single day.

As Muslims, however, we know that our solidarity must include and also extend beyond duas.

Abolition is our duty as Muslims.

Policing will never serve us or our communities.

The justice sold to us by the criminal justice system is a lie and is incomparable to the Divine Justice we are promised.

State violence must be named and challenged in every way we can. It should never be normalised or exceptionalised, when the killing of Black, Brown and marginalised people is the product of the carceral system, exactly as it is designed.

We will be joining UFFC this weekend as they remember, mourn and gather together to demand change. We encourage all those who can to come along.
