Palestine and the escalation of zionist violence
On October 19th, 2023 we reaffirm that:
Reproductive Justice is defined as ‘the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities.’ (SisterSong)
How then, can reproductive justice move forward as a movement when the Palestinian people have been denied their right to bodily autonomy and self-determination for over 75 years? The two concepts cannot co-exist. The forceful removal of a people’s bodily autonomy, land and safety is a direct violation of their rights to reproductive freedom. Solidarity with Palestine is a duty and a responsibility we all have as doulas, birth workers and people committed to RJ.
Over 5000 pregnant people will give birth in Gaza over the next month. Over 1000 children have been returned to Allah already. And only Allah truly knows how many children and young people will be forced to live without their caregivers and grow up in communities that are not only unsafe and unsustainable, but facing the threat of genocide every single day. The continual Israeli occupation and support/silence surrounding it is a contradiction to the very fabric of what RJ teaches us are values that we must fight for.
Palestinian liberation is a reproductive health issue, is a women’s health issue, is a disability justice issue.
We unequivocally support the liberation of Palestine and the Palestinian people. No ifs, no buts, no disclaimers.
From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free in our lifetimes inshAllah.
